The June 2nd Saturday at Winter Street Studios wil feature artist, Doug Hamilton. Doug Hamilton states:
"My work should be called EXTRACTION rather than abstraction.  I extract little bits of what I see or experience and then look for their elemental relationships.  The visual expression is pared down to a form or geometry that simplifies and purifies those relationships.  Then, I try to find the colors and surfaces that express the nature of those elements and their tensions. This whole process is similar to channeling poetic expression into the sonnet form."

Doug Hamilton is a native of Illinois but a Texan since 1971.  His extensive photographic background includes publication illustration, portraiture, and fine art. Those early studies and experiences were significant influences in his designs and tonal values. After moving to Houston to continue his business and legal "day job", a desire to learn new artistic "languages" led to studies and work in various painting and sculpture media. His first public show in Galveston in 2000 was the beginning of his current full-time pursuit of art. He has been part of the artist community at Winter Street Studios for over a year now.
