BooTown is Gearing up for the Weekend Festivities!
What the heck’s a fringe festival, you ask? Well, it’s an amazing weekend of brand-spankin’-new theatre, film, performance art, music, and whatever else we can get our hands on, produced and performed by some of the coolest groups on the Houston arts scene (including Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company, Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre, Melusine Theatre Company, Six of One Productions, Brazosport Lazer Panthers, Wordsmyth Theater Company, The 48 Hour Film Project, Scatter! Improv and BooTown themselves), plus a host of individual and independent artists and shows, including theatrical works by Andrew Kozma, Sam Mayer, Rachel McKeehan, and Hem & Fitz; a puppet show by Camella Clements; and short films by Lindsay Burleson, David Hays, Alejandro Secosse & Sara Patterson, MaxXandauX and Al Bahmani. It's gonna be a lot of fun!
And... This year BooTown will donate a percentage of the profit to Writers in the Schools, which gives children all over Houston the gift of creativity, the power to find their voices, and the freedom to express themselves by pairing professional writers with students in classrooms, community centers, hospitals, and summer creative writing workshops all over the Houston area. In addition, a percentage of each show’s profits will be returned to the festival’s participating artists.
Here's the rundown:
May 14: BooTown hosts the Official HFF Kick-Off Party featuring beverages from Real Ale and a very special Grown-Up Storytime. Location: Bering & James Gallery
May 15: Opening Night features a line-up of awesome shows at AvantGarden...
May 16: In the afternoon we'll get together for an independent Art Market and a special Storytime featuring material from Writers In The Schools, the beneficiary of this year's Festival. After that, the Festival will explode to multiple locations in the Westheimer/Taft area!
May 17: Join us for a special post-brunch lunch & performance and then we'll all go see some more shows into the night, culminating in a special play written during the festival by Hem & Fitz!
