Starting in the during the season of CINCO DE MAYO, two legendary Houston epicenters for Tex-Mex cuisine are joining forces to bring the best of south-of-the-border comfort food and cocktails together under one roof!

After more than 60 years in business, FELIX MEXICAN RESTAURANT on Montrose closed its doors leaving patrons heart-broken with the loss of this historic local eatery. Significant for their one-of-a-kind fare and cultural significance, the Lower Westheimer spot is often credited as the grandfather of Houston Tex-Mex, with such notable life-long fans as Marvin Zindler. Yet, the story of FELIX MEXICAN RESTAURANT isn’t just one of killer chili gravy and fried tacos. Rather, Felix Tijerina had a larger mission in mind; helping other Mexican immigrants assimilate to American culture and prosper. Active in politics and the national president LULAC for 4 terms, this Houstonian has made a lasting impression on the country, our city and the way we eat.

Today, the inner-loop landmark may be closed, but FELIX fans can now get a helping of the cheesy nostalgia they crave at another destination known for Tex-Mex bites and a stout blue margarita worthy of urban legend. EL PATIO RESTAURANT, with the blessing and partnership of the Tijerina family, will bring a signature collection of ORIGINAL FELIX favorites to the EL PATIO located on Westheimer near Voss. Beginning in May, patrons of EL PATIO will be able to treat themselves to a hint of their beloved FELIX QUESO when the Hispanic-inspired haven starts serving up a sneak peak of what’s to come.

EL PATIO plans to launch their entire FELIX “mini-menu” in EARLY JUNE. Kicking off the collaborative effort with an event fit for culinary connoisseurs and fans alike! The Felix Family is expected to be in attendance at the unveiling. Additional details will be released as they become available.

ABOUT EL PATIO
Almost 50 years ago, the first El Patio Mexican Restaurant opened on University Boulevard. The restaurant’s unique Tex-Mex recipes quickly became a favorite among Village patrons, who often lined-up on the sidewalk just waiting to get in. Club No Minors, originally born in the Westheimer location, opened in the mid-1960s during a time when customers either brought their own liquor or were required to join a club in order to partake. Today, Club No Minors is still famous for its potent Margaritas and lively Mariachis. Synonymous with good food, reasonable prices and a friendly atmosphere, today, El Patio has two locations; the legendary spot at 6444 Westheimer and their newest Midtown edition at 2416 Brazos. At El Patio, Houston tradition lives on! www.elpatio.com
