Is the Freebie Really Worth It?

For those that missed the free grand slam at Denny's back in February, not to fret. The diner-like eatery is rolling out yet another "freebie" campaign to help promote a new menu item, the "Grand Slamwich." This time, you must bring a friend to get your meal deal. If you are kind enough to bring a buddy on April 8 from 6 AM - 2 PM you can score a complimentary Grand Slamwich for your pal when you order a Grand Slam (the freebie back in February).

Now, this marketing campaign is great for Denny's usual target audience (I guess that was their intention), but if they are looking to bring an alternative crowd, I doubt it will spur much interest. For a place that has affordable food to begin with, a free meal to me means a huge line out the door, screaming babies, crammed quarters and just plain anxiety. And the runny eggs and over-fried hashbrowns that ooze oil onto my plate just won't do it for tastebuds or my waistline. So, I'll opt to help the local business around the corner that serves hormone-free meat and other delicious healthy options and be happy that I spent the money on something that makes me feel good.
