HOUSTON (December 17, 2009) – Sammy’s at 2016 Main, Houston’s hippest, most enthusiastic live entertainment venue in Houston, recently announced that the venue will be temporarily winding down operations for renovation and band line-up changes, effective January 1, 2010. The venue will remain open Saturdays for the popular house band, Faye Robinson & the Mid City Players.

Sammy’s at 2016 Main, home to The Spazmatics, Sammie Relford, Faye Robinson & the Mid City Players, Skyrocket and Rockstar Karaoke, is known for being one of the hottest live music and party venues in Houston since it opened in 2005.

“Sammy’s has never been a typical nightclub; it has always been a place to celebrate,” explains owner Jon Deal. “Given the economic conditions, we have found that many people are simply not celebrating as they have in the past.”

It’s been a long run, but the party is far from over. “We are not closing indefinitely,” explains Deal. “Rather, we are taking six months to reassess, revamp and reinvent the spirit of celebration at Sammy’s and hopefully in the Houston area. It will be exciting to watch how it all comes together.” While the details of the new and improved Sammy’s have not been made public, patrons can expect quite a party with the venue’s reopening, planned for June 2010.

Additionally, with the revamp of Sammy’s, the popular nerd-inspired 80’s cover band The Spazmatics are also going on a temporary Houston hiatus. Taking the time to focus on their music in their home town of Austin, Texas, The Spazmatics will be booking only private performances in Houston for the time being. Look for The Spazmatics official public return to the beloved Houston venue with its reopening in June.

Fans of Sammy’s won’t be left in the cold this holiday season; there is plenty of time left in 2009 to get their groove on! Two more Spazmatics shows are planned for Thursday, December 17 and Tuesday, December 22, with a final Spazmatics good-bye celebration party on Tuesday, December 29. Additionally, Sammie Relford and Faye Robinson & the Mid City Players will perform for the annual New Year’s bash on December 31.
